Cities across North America are vying for Amazon's coveted second headquarters, which would bring 50,000 jobs with it.
Las Vegas, along with Clark County, North Las Vegas, and Henderson are hoping a joint bid for the valley will give us a better shot.
Mayor Carolyn Goodman says our status as a world-class destination combined with Nevada's business-friendly environment make us a strong contender.
"We have no city tax, not state income tax, it makes it a really viable option," she says. There are 4 potential sites around the valley being floated. "We truly are Nirvana," she says. "You pick it and we'll build it for you."
Amazon announced its main criteria for a locations are airport and freeway access, something Las Vegas has. But a potential challenge could be having less white-collar workers than other cities.
"They need an educated workforce and those are things we have challenges with," says expert Mike PeQueen. He says Las Vegas being chosen is likely an uphill battle, but the state has seen success in the past with companies like Tesla.
Goodman says Amazon is also already familiar with the valley, with a few facility in North Las Vegas, and other companies in the city like Zappos.
They say if Amazon chooses Las Vegas, the economic impact would bring in 15 times the payroll of the Bellagio. And economic impact that widespread would also spur growth in housing and other development.
Thursday is the deadline for cities to file their proposals to Amazon.
