13 Action News is finally getting answers about an awning collapse that trapped several cars underneath.

Several cars have been stuck under a collapsed parking roof for nearly a month and a half at Arcadia Palms Apartments near the corner of South Sandhill Road and East Sahara Avenue.

It happened on June 9.

Neighbors say nothing has been done and the owners of those cars are demanding action.

Richard Dover is one of the unlucky drivers desperate to get back behind the wheel.

As of Wednesday, caution tape still surrounds the scene to keep tenants away from the possibility of getting hurt.

Dover says the situation forced him to rent a car. However, a few days later, he was in a wreck that sent him to the hospital. Now he’s in rehab recovering from his injuries.

Dover says what's so frustrating about all of this is that his car is still in usable condition. It's still drivable. It's just trapped.

There's barely a scratch thanks to the large SUV on its right side holding the awning up.

Dover says if he put his keys in the ignition today, the car would cruise without a hitch.

Dover gets out of rehab in about a week and he’s praying this mess is all cleaned up by then.

"We just want our vehicles out,” said Dover. “We can't claim our insurance until we get out vehicles out. They don't understand the predicament they've got us all in. I can't go out and look for a job right now because I don't have a vehicle to do it."

What's hard to see is that the awning that collapsed into the apartment complex's parking lot actually belongs to the abandoned building next door.

The managers of the apartment complex say it's the owner of the abandoned building who needs to stop dragging their feet because it's their responsibility to get it cleared.

According to a Clark County spokeswoman, the company is applying for a demolition permit on Thursday.

Once the county approves the permit, the awning could be demolished within a week.
