Clark County District Court has a new way to fight the cycle of addiction and crime.

A $1.4 million grant from the state will be used to provide residential treatment programs to offenders with addiction or mental health problems. This will give judges more options when sentencing defendants who could benefit more from treatment than jail time.

The court hopes for better outcomes for many. The grant could save millions of dollars from a reduction in repeat offenders.

The grant is expected to provide services for 80 defendants each month.
