Yes, you heard right. There is a freeze warning in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday morning.

The freeze warning affects the Las Vegas valley and extends along Interstate 15 to include Moapa, Overton and Mesquite.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s in some areas, which will kill sensitive plants and could freeze exposed pipes in the colder areas.

This cold snap is courtesy of a very cold upper level low pressure system which has parked itself in central Nevada and is continuing to push colder and colder air back into southern Nevada.

It will warm up a little on Friday although temperatures are expected to be about 10 degrees below normal and highs will peak in the low 50s.

Saturday won't be any warmer. Another system will drop temps by at least a couple degrees, but then slowly start to warm back up. However, it will remain cloudy throughout the weekend and there may even be some stray sprinkles or light showers before the system departs on Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to sneak back up into the 60s by Thursday of next week.
