Firefighters were on the scene of a home attic fire on Friday.

It was reported near Charleston Boulevard and Rancho Drive.

One man attempted to put the fire out with a garden hose. He was checked out by fire paramedics and released.

An investigation revealed that a fan mounted in the attic caused the fire.

There is an estimated $75K in damage. One person is displaced as a result of the fire.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue says that electrical-related fires are the second leading cause of fires in Las Vegas. All electrical appliances heat up when operating, though the heat is usually dissipated by the surrounding air. However, when the surrounding air is extremely hot, the heat from the electrical device does not dissipate well and sometimes catches fire. The condition is worsened when the appliance or wiring is not properly maintained.
