UPDATE AUG. 8: According to police, Malik Kendrick had a history with the man killed from time they spent together in jail in 2015.

Trayvone Crocket had told the girl he was with that Kendrick "had a beef with him and had previously shot at him," according to Kendrick's arrest report.

Kendrick denied to police that he shot Crocket, but did identify the man. Kendrick also said he worked as an unarmed security guard.

Witnesses, including children at the pool, described the shooter as a man matching Kendrick's description.

UPDATE ON AUG. 6: The man who was reportedly shot by the security guard was identified by the Clark County Coroner as 28-year-old Trayvone Gentre Crocket from Las Vegas.

His death was ruled a homicide.

ORIGINAL STORY

A 19-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a man and the attempted murder of a 14-year-old girl on Aug. 3.

Police say that they received a call at 5:17 p.m. about a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6800 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard.

Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive adult male who had been shot near the pool. They also discovered a teenage girl who had been shot in the hand.

The investigation revealed that the man and girl were arguing with a security guard for the complex, identified as Malik Kendrick, before the shooting. After the argument, Kendrick reportedly went to his vehicle and retrieved a gun and changed into a hoodie. He then returned to the pool area and shot the victims.

Kendrick remained on scene.

He was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon and attempted murder.
