UPDATE OCT. 26: On Oct. 25, Nye County Sheriff's deputies arrested Amanda Ramsey in connection with an ongoing investigation of child abuse and failure to protect her young child.

Amanda Ramsey is the mother of the 6-month-old child that was transported to Sunrise Pediatric Hospital in Las Vegas with life-threatening injuries caused by physical abuse. The child later succumbed from his injuries and died. The child's father, Mitchell Robinson, was subsequently arrested for open murder and child abuse causing substantial bodily harm, which occurred at their residence in Pahrump.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE SEPT. 11: On Sept. 9, Nye County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested 21-year-old Mitchell Robinson on charges of causing the death of his six-month-old child.

The investigation began when deputies arrived at a residence in the 2000 block of West Simkins Street after receiving a 911 call that the infant had stopped breathing. Upon arrival, the child was immediately transported to Desert View Hospital and was eventually revived and stabilized. He was then transferred from Desert View hospital to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and remained on life support.

Medical examinations identified that the child's life threatening condition was the result of intentional abuse and head trauma. On Sept. 8 the child died as a result of traumatic head injuries.

It was also discovered that the child had suffered a previous choking incident in June of 2017 and discovered previous rib fractures. On Sept. 9 detectives interviewed Robinson, at which point he admitted to shaking the baby "too hard".

He admitted to shaking the baby several times on the day the infant stopped breathing. Robinson was placed in custody and booked in at the Nye County Detention Center on charges of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm and open murder.
