UPDATE MARCH 27: Through the course of this investigation, detectives identified 18-year-old Tyrone Washington as the suspect in this case, and on March 1, Washington was arrested in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Washington was extradited and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on March 26. He currently faces one count of murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

UPDATE FEB. 24: Family and friends will hold a walk for Tiris Coleman Jr. Saturday.

It will start at 3 p.m. at Pearson Center. There will be food, drinks, a DJ and jumper for kids.

UPDATE FEB. 20 11:45 P.M.: Shadow Ridge students tell 13 Action News four of their classmates have died this school year, including a teen shot and killed Sunday.

"Why do they have to go so young?" said Markel Nelson.

Nelson said a classmate he ran track with passed away in August.

"Gabby was very fun and outgoing," he said. "She always had a big smile on her face."

Soon after, another student named Ashley died, who was described as "a big ball of joy."

Each horrific loss happened a different way.

Hundreds of students showed up for a vigil earlier this month after student Jaelan Fajardo was killed by a suspected drunk driver.

Police have made an arrest in that case; however, they are still searching for those involved in Tiris Coleman's death. He was shot and killed near the basketball courts in the 900 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard Sunday.

Students said they plan on wearing red to school Tuesday to honor the 17-year-old who played football for Shadow Ridge.

UPDATE ON FEB. 20 7 P.M.: Police say that a 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times during an altercation involving several people.

The fight happened at the basketball courts in a park in the 900 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard. The boy was found on a sidewalk in front of the West Las Vegas Library.

Just moments earlier, a Las Vegas police officer was handing out stickers at the park.

People in the west Las Vegas community say this basketball court is no place for crime.

"This is our safe haven," Henry Thorn said. "This is the only thing we have."

Police say that the boy was shot in the neck and despite attempts by several citizens to render aid, he was pronounced deceased at 5:30 p.m. at UMC Trauma.

The Clark County Coroner identified the teen as Tiris Coleman Jr. from Las Vegas.

The Shadow Ridge High School football team is remembering Coleman, who was No. 53. They say, "once a mustang, always a mustang."

Xavion Thompson remembers his cousin as the person who could always put a smile on your face.

"He was just always positive, I guess, he just, he never got angry," he said.

Police believe the shooter is also a teenager. This is the 23rd homicide so far this year in Las Vegas. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department or CrimeStoppers at 702-385-5555.
