UPDATE: Man in custody after standoff situation on roof

Neighbors, including 90-year-old, not injured

LATEST: The man is in custody after the standoff situation on the roof.  

Relatives tell 13 Action News this began as a domestic situation.  The man got into an argument with his girlfriend.  Loved ones say that's when things escalated.  

"He needs help," said brother Jeff Knecht, "he just wants somebody to be there for him."

For hours, the man was on the roof of a valley family.    

"I just didn't want him to come into my house," said the woman.

A 90-year-old woman was inside the home at the time.  She was not injured.

LVMPD is reporting a barricade situation at a residence located on the 1700 block of South Christy Lane, near East Charleston Boulevard and South Sloan Lane.

The LVMPD received a call around 10:05 a.m. of malicious destruction at the 300 block of Sturgeon Lane, near Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue. The suspect was not at the scene when officers arrived, but the suspect was located later on the 1700 block of South Christy Lane.

There was a foot pursuit between officers and the suspect, which led to the suspect climbing on a roof of a home, where he currently remains.

An elderly woman inside of the home has been removed from the home.
