Inmate dies shortly after altercation at Las Vegas women's prison

An inmate died following an altercation with another inmate at a women's prison in Las Vegas.

According to the Nevada Department of Corrections, 51-year-old Marnie Peot died at the Florence McClure Women’s Correctional Center around 1:15 p.m. Friday.

Officials said Peot had been in an altercation with another female inmate earlier in the day. Both inmates were assessed by medical staff and found to have minor injuries.

Peot had been placed into a cell in the operations area of the facility awaiting her move to Administrative Segregation. She was found unresponsive at approximately 12:43 p.m. in the cell by staff who administered CPR. She was pronounced dead at 1:14.

After being convicted in Clark County, Peot had been at the prison since August 1995 and was serving 1 1/2 to 5 years for use of a deadly weapon and had sentences pending for murder 1st degree and use of a deadly weapon.

The Clark County coroner responded to the scene.
