A couple was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement officials on Sunday.

Around 10:30 a.m. a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper performed a traffic stop on a Ford Expedition at Skye Canyon Park Drive and U.S. Highway 95. The Expedition drove off, u-turned, and headed eastbound on Skye Canyon.

There was a short pursuit when the Expedition drove over the center median and struck a Ford Flex. No one was injured inside the vehicle that was hit.

An adult male passenger of the Expedition got out and threw a gun in an attempt to rid himself of the firearm. The female driver slid into the passenger seat, and the male returned to the vehicle as the driver.

The Expedition traveled south on Fort Apache Road but was disabled due to the accident. The male and the female got out of the vehicle, along with two children in the back seat, and all four fled on foot to the female's house.

NHP set up a perimeter with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department around the house. The couple surrendered around 12:16 p.m.

The children are now in protective custody by Child Protective Services.
