Two people have died after an apparent murder-suicide in the Anthem Highlands area of Henderson Monday evening.

Henderson police were called for a welfare check on a 41-year-old woman around 6 p.m. to the 2800 block of Blythswood Square, near Anthem Highlands Drive and Democracy Drive.

When officers arrived on scene they tried to make contact with the people inside but no one answered. Officers were later able to enter the home and discovered the woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound and the 38-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Henderson police said the woman, who was in the process of moving out, came to the house Monday to retrieve some items. At some point the man apparently pulled out a handgun, shooting and killing the woman.

The woman’s 14-year-old daughter from a previous relationship and the couple’s 9-year-old daughter were not home at the time of the shooting. Relatives are taking care of the children.

Henderson police are continuing to investigate. Police did say they were called to the home once in the past year for a domestic dispute.

The woman's death is the seventh homicide Henderson police have investigated this year.
