UPDATE: Woman arrested after accidental shooting of child

UPDATE: The investigation by the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect Section showed that a firearm was left unsecured within the home. Detectives determined that the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Shaletres Townsend, had placed her gun on a chair in a bedroom where children were playing. The gun accidentally discharged, striking the toddler.
 
Townsend was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of Child Neglect with Substantial Bodily Harm.  
 
ORGINAL STORY:
 
A 4-year-old girl was accidentally shot at a residence in the 4200 block of Studio Street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
 
The child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her condition is stable.
 
Abuse and Neglect officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the shooting.
