A man has died following an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning.

This all happened around 2 a.m.

Police said it started on Karen Street, when officers pulled over a car, after learning it's license plates didn't match the vehicle description.  The driver sped off, but officers didn't follow.

Some time later, officers pulled over the same vehicle at a nearby intersection, on the corner of Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue, because the car was moving so slowly.  They discovered nobody was inside the vehicle, and the driver had gotten out and started running toward the French Oaks Apartment complex near Katie Avenue and Cambridge Street.

A security officer was trying to take the white man of the property when he even fled.

A police officer then used a taser, which was not effective. Police said the suspect then reached for a firearm and three officers opened fire.

The man shot was taken to Sunrise Hospital where he later died.

Police found a firearm on scene. The investigation is underway.  This is the 12th officer-involved shooting in the city so far this year.  The three officers involved have been put on paid administrative leave as part of procedure.
