Police say two masked men broke into the Las Vegas Mini Gran Prix family fun center Monday night when an employee shot one of them.
It happened more than an hour after the family fun center near Rainbow Boulevard and Vegas Drive closed for the night. The employees were approached by a male suspect with his face partially covered by a
bandana and armed with an assault-style rifle who reportedly demanded the employees get on the floor. One of the victims drew a handgun and fired multiple times at the suspect, striking him at least twice.
The suspect fell to the ground and the victims ran from the business. A few minutes later, the suspect got up and walked outside of the business where he was located by arriving patrol officers and transported to UMC Trauma. Police say the two armed men went inside, and one of them was shot by an employee.
The injured suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kyle Johnson, is reported to be in critical condition.
The other suspect is still on the loose. He is described as a black man last seen wearing a gray hoodie, black shorts and a white bandana over the lower half of his face. The suspect fled in a newer model, dark-colored four-door sedan.
A manager told 13 Action News he regrets what happened and says he didn't know the worker was armed.
Whether the employee was allowed to have a gun or not, 13 Action News Crime and Safety Expert and retired Las Vegas police Lt. Randy Sutton says if he felt threatened, he may be justified in protecting himself.
The manager says no customers were inside at the time.
Las Vegas police released video surveillance of the incident.
