Just days after UNLV police responded to a shooter on campus, officers are going through active shooter training.

Last week, shots were fired between two vehicles on UNLV's campus. University police say they had trained for it.

"That sort of thing has been practiced before, to be honest," says Lt. Richard Dohmes.

Thursday is the first day of UNLV Police Services annual active shooter training. The training is designed to help ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff.

13 Action News asked police if they would have done anything differently in their response last week, and they said everything went just how they practiced.

"The situation was handled quickly," Dohmes says.

Officers will continue training throughout the month.
