Yarnstormers to Beautify Bridge
Local yarnstormers will adorn a pedestrian bridge over Maryland Parkway with crocheted and knitted art in the evening of Sunday, June 10 and complete it on Monday, June 11 with a public unveiling at 10 a.m.
The unveiling on the bridge, which leads to Sunrise Hospital near Desert Inn Road, coincides with International Yarnstorming Day. The bridge will be adorned with sunrise-inspired colored circles of all shapes and sizes.
Yarnstorming is the art of creating small cozies to adorn urban landscape, cheering up otherwise bare, concrete environments with bright colors and patterns. Instead of paintbrushes or steel, the seniors at the West Flamingo Senior Center are using their crochet or knitting needles to create pieces of all shapes and sizes.
The West Flamingo Center is located at 6255 W. Flamingo Road. Those interested in the Yarnstormers group can call the center at (702) 455-7742 or visit www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/parks.
