Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A new study suggests that sharing household duties such as washing dishes and scrubbing toilets may not be the key to a happy marriage after all.

Researchers used data on thousands of Norwegian families to determine the link between marriage, housework and happiness.

And, they have determined that sharing household chores will not necessarily reduce the odds of divorce.

Researchers found that divorce rates among couples who shared housework equally was around 50 percent higher than those where women did most of the work.

And, divorce rates were significantly highers for the households they surveyed where men did the majority of the housework.

But experts say this doesn't mean that you should throw in the towel on sharing duties around the house.

Instead, this study could prove more couples need clearer roles.
