Back-to-school shopping season 2nd biggest
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Your kids might not be excited about heading back to school but retailers are certainly happy.
The back-to-school season is typically the second biggest shopping time of the year.
Retail sales have been down for the last three months but it looks like things just might turn around this month.
The National Retail Federation does an annual survey on back-to-school shoppers. And, they are finding that the average person with school-age children will spend just over $688 this year. That is up about $85 from last year.
Here is how most people plan to spend their money: about $246 on clothing; $217 on electronics; $128 on shoes; and about $95 on supplies.
Of course, half of those surveyed said they would be looking for discounts both in stores and online. But, retailers are still hoping for sales of around $30 billion this year.
