Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Forget counting calories. When it comes to losing weight, that may not be the best way to go.

According to a new study, it is not enough to count calories. It matters what kinds of food those calories come from.

The study compared three basic diets with the same number of calories but in different forms. The study looked at the low-fat diet, a low carb-high protein diet and the low-glycemic diet.

The low-glycemic diet includes normal amounts of protein, fat and carbs but it avoids processed carbohydrates like white rice, white bread and sugar.

Researchers found that the low-glycemic diet actually speeds up a person's metabolism, helping them to burn calories.
