Vancouver gym bans skinny people
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The founder of Body Exchange in Vancouver says she wanted to create a "safe haven" for overweight people who are trying to get fit.
So, she has a strict policy that allows only plus-sized women to join the fitness center.
That might be a big extreme but there are companies around the country that are trying to mimic the way the television show "The Biggest Loser" helps heavy people by focusing on their specific needs.
Here in Las Vegas, there is one such place called Downsize Fitness.
Although their website does not mention an outright ban on skinny people, they say they have developed a fitness program with chronically overweight and obese individuals in mind.
They say that they are trying to eliminated the self-conscious and alienating atmosphere that is felt in many conventional gyms.
Downsize Fitness also has locations in Dallas and Chicago and say that since they deal with plus-size clients, they don't just focus on fitness. They also offer members advice on nutrition and support.
