Scientists studying benefits of people owning pets
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- We know that dogs have the ability to raise our spirits but it turns out that it may be much more than that.
What is surprising is just how many scientists have been looking into the issue.
They are finding that there are also physical benefits from owning dogs or cats.
Australian researches have discovered that people with dogs visit the doctor less. Now, scientists in San Francisco says the dust that they found in homes with dogs may actually make kids less likely to have asthma.
Do you have a cat? Researchers in Minnesota found that people who never owned a cat are 40 percent more likely to die from a heart attack.
And a cat's calming purr might actually soothe anxiety.
If you are allergic to animals, don't worry. Another study found that simply watching episodes of "Lassie" can calm people's nerves.
