Eight North Las Vegas residents were displaced in a house fire Saturday afternoon.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to the blaze at 329 Duchess Ave., near North Commerce Street and West Carey Avenue, around 12:26 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found a single story, single family dwelling with heavy smoke and flames showing from the house and discovered once inside most of the smoke and flames were in the back part of the house.

Four women, one man and three children were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape. Four dogs got out of the house safely as well. There were no reports of injuries to any of the occupants nor firefighters.

The North Las Vegas and City of Las Vegas Fire Departments were able to contain the fire to the involved home, saving the immediately adjacent structures from any damage. The main fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of the first firefighter’s arrival. The fire took approximately 45 minutes to completely contain.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents. The house sustained severe smoke and flame damage and is considered a complete loss.

The estimated cost of damage is $200,000 for the home and contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
