A series of home burglaries shakes up a west side community! It all went down Wednesday in what many consider a safe neighborhood.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a total of six break-ins between 11 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.

All of them occurred a few blocks apart in a residential neighborhood called The Lakes near Desert Inn and Fort Apache roads.

Neighbors are shocked because five out of the six break-ins happened during the day.

"The Lakes is the best-kept secret of Las Vegas, and I hate to think of something like this starting in our neighborhood," said Marion Thompson.

The first burglary was reported at 11:45 a.m. on the 3100 block of Ocean Port Drive.

The second was reported at 12:39 p.m. on the 3000 block of Ocean Port Drive. The next one was at 4:13 p.m. on the 3100 block of Harborside Drive, and another one at 4:22 p.m. on the 9000 block of Gentle Rain Way.

Not long after, another burglary was reported at 4:36 p.m. on the 3200 block of Cutty Sark Street. The final one took place at 10:17 p.m. at 3300 block of Sky Country Lane.

Neighbors tell 13 Action News this is a tight-knit community, and nothing goes unseen or unheard so the fact that the suspects were able to break into so many homes in such a short time is puzzling many neighbors.

"We watch out for each other,” Thompson says. “We know each other's schedule. We know when they’re home. Even when there may not be cars in the front, we know when they’re home and when they aren't."
