The Nevada State Contractors Board has cited nearly two dozen unlicensed contractors.

During two separate undercover sting operations in Henderson and Sparks in January, investigators cited 19 for contracting without a license or illegally advertising construction services.

Investigators identified suspects through complaints to the Contractors Board and by examining advertisements on Craigslist and other bulletin board services. Unlicensed individuals are not allowed to advertise for construction work, which requires a contractor’s license.

Nevada requires contractors to be licensed to perform any electrical, plumbing, heating or air conditioning work, any construction work that requires a building permit and any project with a value of $1,000 or more, including labor and materials. Suspects who submitted estimates for work in the prohibited trades or in excess of the $1,000 ceiling received contracting without a license citation.

At least two of those cited have criminal records and at least one has been previously cited by the state board.
