Updated:

Even with the status of the economy, retailers are still counting on people to shop until they drop this holiday season, like they did last year.

Are consumer ready to spend in these tough economic times?

Despite the economic troubles felt across the country, major retailers are still open for business and anticipate a busy as usual holiday shopping season.

Action News talked to some shoppers who say they are changing things up this year as they head toward the holidays.

Some said they would cut back and maybe keep gift giving to a circle of family friends.

Others said they have already been saving for this holiday season.

Some retailer giants are seeing a major drop in sales though.

Last month JCPenney's saw a 12% drop in sales, while Wal - Mart saw a 2% jump last month in sales.

In Las Vegas, places like Target and Macy's are hiring for seasonal help, proving they plan to pack in the shoppers this holiday season.
