A family is mourning the lost of an 11 - year - old boy who died a week after a car accident left him in coma.
It happened at Durango and Russell.
People in the accident say the little boy's death brings to light just how dangerous that intersection is.
"I have to wear this for a week. I have body spasms all over I have bruises all over," said Shannon Martinez, the victim's mother.
While the serious car accident the Martinez family was is in causes physical pain, the emotional pain is worse.
Little Giovanni died from head injuries days after the accident.
"He was my angel. He was my first born and he was just a great kid. His picture says it all," said Shannon.
On Friday, Shannon was in the car with her 11 - year - old son Giovanni, her two - year - old daughter and newborn.
"He suffered quite a bit," explained Shannon.
Brianna and Sofi were in the back seat.
The family thinks the accident could have been prevented if some there was a traffic signal at the intersection.
"How many more fatal accidents do you want for something to be done," asked Howard Benito, the victim's stepfather.
County Commissioners say there should be one put in by January or February but Giovanni's stepfather is not satisfied.
"We still have four more months ahead of us of people of people driving recklessly though that intersection," said Howard.
Family members just hope more people do not die there.
"He was a great kid he did not deserve to die like this he was too young," said Shannon.
The Martinez family is having a benefit for Giovanni at T.G.I. Friday's on West Sahara on Monday October 6th from 11am to 2pm.
