Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - An abandoned home with signs on the door announcing it's in foreclosure is nothing new for Las Vegas. But a house with potentially dangerous mold growing inside and no one with clearance to clean it, is a completely different story.
"There is stuff growing in there and we don't know what it is," Ryan Vanek says.
The house looks fine on the outside, but peak through a window for a different view and you can see a disgusting mold substance covering the walls.
Although it hasn't been tested, neighbors like Ryan and Debbie Vanek worry it's toxic black mold.
"Right now the wind is blowing, what if its blowing right now and we're breathing it in, I don't know," Ryan Vanek says.
The Vaneks called everyone they could think of for help and then they called You Ask, We Investigate. Our story aired earlier in the week with hope County Code Enforcement could solve the problem.
"Tried to talk to a real person at the county and its just like leave a detailed message so I left a long message and went online and wrote a complaint online. No one ever seems to get back to you," Debbie Vanek says.
Code enforcement told Action News, they are investigating. But its an open case and they can't comment on it. They can't even tell us if there's anything they're going to be able to do about it.
Having no time frame for a clean-up is not good news for the Vaneks.
"Its a scary thought, very scary. That mold could just be spreading like a wildfire," Debbie says.
If the house in the foreclosure process like the sign on the door says, it may be a wildfire no one has the right to put out.
The problem every agency is running into like the HOA and the Health District, is that they handle issues outside a home, not inside.
Code Enforcement can normally lean on the homeowner to get it fixed, but if its in the in-between foreclosure phase, there might not be anyone to lean on.
