Dirty Dining: Diamond China

Updated:

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - A local Chinese restaurant is being cited by the Southern Nevada Health District for some issues with food handling.

The Health District gave Diamond China on Sahara near Valley View 57 demerits in a recent inspection, shutting them down.

Pictures taken by the Health District show raw meat thawing next to scallops and mixing juices. Beef was also found thawing with fish. Raw duck was found hanging next to and touching what inspectors call a dirty shelf.

Inspectors say a worker prepared chicken and never washed his hands before moving on to cut some fish. Dirty dishes filled the hand sink making it unusable.

The report says, "Servers, cook prep, cook never washed hands at all during inspection."

Inspectors also found there were no working thermometers. Contact 13 went to the restaurant to talk with the manager about the report. The employee says the manager only works at night.

The employee said reaching him on the phone wasn't possible, so we wrote down our contact information and gave it to them. Well, we called again, and he still wasn't in.

We never did hear back from him, but we do know Diamond China reopened with an A rating after it was inspected again. Diamond China has been open for 13 years. This is third time it has been shut down since opening.
