Henderson, NV (KTNV) - Employees of the Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas were informed that in less than three months, they'll be out of a job.
340 staffers were told Monday that the resort will shut down on May 2nd.
The Ritz Carlton says of all of its 73 hotels, there is no question that their resort in Henderson has been hit the hardest by the economic slump. Its owners, Village Hospitality, which purchased the property last year, ultimately made the final decision.
The luxury hotel will remain fully operational until it's official closing.
Execs with the Ritz Carlton spent Monday notifying guests who have booked past that date.
Most of the 340 employees who could soon be unemployed had no idea about the news they would be facing.
"A little bit of everything. Shock, sadness, resignation, but also determination. I think that's what impressed me the most. They said, you know what, life goes on. We'll find other jobs," explained corporate vice president Vivian Deuschl.
The Ritz Carlton says they are working to transfer some of their employees to other properties across the country.
It's uncertain exactly how much money the resort is losing.
The Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas opened its doors back in 2003.
This closing is just the latest setback to the Lake Las Vegas development which remains in bankruptcy and is strapped with $728 million in liabilities and debt.
