Nevada Guard helicopters conclude Arizona mission; 3 to Haiti

CARSON CITY – The Nevada National Guard's mission in Arizona concluded Sunday just as Nevada Guard deployments in support of Haitian earthquake recovery effort began.

All three of the helicopters dispatched to Arizona on January 25th to provide aerial transportation of supplies in the wake of the massive snowstorm have concluded their missions.

Two of the helicopters returned safely to Reno and the third was flown to Texas for maintenance.

During the Arizona deployment, the two Blackhawks and one Chinook combined to make a total of 39 deliveries on the Navajo and Hopi Native American nations.

They also distributed 105 cases of meals ready-to-eat and 103 cases of water to rural residents.

While the Army Guard helicopters and most of their crews returned to Nevada Sunday, two Nevada Airmen, both personnel specialists, were deployed to Haiti to provide support.

One Army Guard public affairs officer was also sent to provide support of the Haitian mission.
