LAS VEGAS, NV - Southern Nevada and a community came together to say goodbye to Las Vegas Metro Police Officer Trevor Nettleton who was shot and killed in an attempted robbery in his North Las Vegas home. Police say four men approached Officer Nettleton in his garage in attempt to rob him. A gun fight broke out and Officer Nettleton was hit twice. He died at his home.

A procession traveled down Las Vegas Boulevard Wednesday morning and several casinos, including MGM, Planet Hollywood and Wynn changed their marquees to pay tribute to Officer Nettleton's service to the community.

"The day you were born was one of the highlights of my life," explained Deborah Austern, Trevor's mom said during her speech at Wednesday's church ceremony.

The day Officer Nettleton died, he was protecting his mother, Deborah's, life, along with his wife, and two young children, all of whom were inside their home when he was gunned down, all of whom were inside Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church a week later.

"You never let us down. From an early age, you loved all things police," said Austern.

So much, police were Officer Nettleton's second family, testifying about it in church Wednesday, instead of testifying in court.

"He was attacked in his home by animals that had come to prey on a sheep in his garage, or what they thought was a sheep," said Officer Larry Rinetti.

"He said he would die before he let anything happen to his family. Rest well my brother," said Officer Brian Jackson.

"I would gladly trade places with you, to give you back to Danielle, Tanner, and Quinn. I'm sorry I'm not able to do that. I love you," said Austern.

Officer Nettleton leaves behind his wife Danielle, 21 month old son Tanner and 6 week old daughter, Quinn. Born in Quincy, Washington Officer Nettleton served in the Marine Corps for more than 9 years. He was 30 years old.

18 year old Prentice Marshall, 20 year old Saul Williams Jr., 18-years-old Quadrae Scott, 18-years-old Emmitt Ferguson, 17 year old Adrian Pena and 25 year old Michael Ferguson have been arrested in connection with Officer Nettleton's murder.

Scott, Pena, Marshall and Williams have been charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Emmitt Ferguson and Michael Ferguson have been charged with one count of accessory to murder after the fact.

Marshall and Williams face an additional charge of robbery with a deadly weapon in connection with a separate robbery that happened one hour prior to the attempted robbery that killed Officer Nettleton.
