On Sunday, November 8, 2009, at about 1:30 a.m., North Las Vegas Police Officers responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle that struck a parked car in the 3700 Block of East Carey Road.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a black, 2000 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on East Carey Road from Pecos Road at a high rate of speed.
For reasons unknown, the 31-year-old male driver, a North Las Vegas resident, lost control of his Honda.
The Honda began to rotate in a clockwise manner and struck a white, 2005 Chevrolet pick-up, that was unoccupied and legally parked along the north side of the street.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel that responded to the collision.
The North Las Vegas Police Department Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate the collision.
Preliminary findings indicate that excessive speed and failure to wear a seat belt on the part of the driver of the Honda contributed to his death.
It is yet to be determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
This is the fifth fatal traffic collision this year.
