Child care centers protect against Swine Flu

A new national poll shows that only about 1/3 of parents who have tried to get a swine flu vaccine for their children have been able to do so.

But those kids still have to attend school and daycare, for example, which is cause for concern for some parents.

However, a lot of educators are taking steps to supplement the lack of vaccine.

It doesn't matter which hand Kennedy Hsu uses to wave goodbye to her classmates.

Her mom, Christa, knows Lit'l Scholar Academy makes sure both hands are as free as possible from H1N1.

"With the vaccination optional, you don't know who has had it or who hasn't had it," says Christa.

That's why when parents walk in the front door, they're greeted by hand santizer that they're required to use if they want to proceed further.

Administrators say staff have to use these germicidal wipes on the computer that checks them in.

"So far, we've had great success. We did have one child and family confirmed with H1N1, and we were able to keep it from spreading," says director, D'Ann Blatt.

Staff now also have to disinfect their classrooms, and everthing in them, several times a day, after almost every activity.

"We have a policy that if you have any flu-like symptoms, you have to be out for 24-hours. This is not only our children, but this is also our staff," says Blatt.

"They seem to be doing great measures," adds Christa.

In order to help ensure these kids have a great, and healthy, future.
