Updated:

Officer Milburn "Milli" Beitel died Thursday October 8th when the cruiser he was riding in crashed near Washington and Nellis. Funeral services were held Wednesday for the 30 year old. Officer Beitel joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in September 2003. He graduated from Silverado High School in 1997. At the time of his death, he was assigned to Metro's Mobile Command Saturation Unit.

Before joining the force, Officer Beitel served with the United States Marine Corps from 1997 - 2001.  He was born in San Antonio, Texas and is survived by his parents and brother, Aaron. Officer Beitel had a beloved pit bull named Winston, who will move to Texas and be cared for by family members.

The other police officer who was riding with Officer Beitel, Officer David Nesheiwat, 25, remains at UMC in serious but stable condition. He is expected to fully recover.

The Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF) has established an account for Officer Beitel's family at Nevada State Bank.
