Las Vegas, NV - A Chaparral High School student shot to death earlier this week in a stand-off with police, was remembered today by teachers and classmates.
In an eery irony, Tanner had written his own eulogy just weeks ago as part of a creative writing assignment.
"Here rests a great soul. A man that moves forward through his very eventful life," read English Teacher David Winkler. "Tanner was a being of many obsessions. He would commit to an idea or desire and then per sue it relentlessly. In the course of these pursuits he affected the lives and minds of many people. He was best known for changing someone's perspectives on its ear and changing the way they saw the world. He will be sorely missed."
But for Tanner's mom, the last memory of her son is one she doesn't want.
"I cant even go back to my house and sleep," says mom Evie Oquendo. "I mean, I cant go back there to where he was killed."
Tanner, who was apparently bi-polar, was shot and killed by police in a standoff Tuesday after he held a knife to his mom's throat and threatened to kill her."
His theater classmates say that's not the Tanner they knew.
"Even though he's not there, every time you walk in that theater you can feel his energy going through you," says classmate Katie Nowlan.
That's the Tanner his mom will remember as well.
"It doesn't sink in," says Oquendo. "None of this is real."
Oquendo is considering pressing charges against Metro. She believe the standoff could have been resolved without fatally shooting her son.
