School traffic can be a pain, so one local student wants to ditch the drive, and get to class the old-school way- on foot.
But her mom says there's a busy intersection standing in the way of her daughter's walk.
So Janelle Macias asked her mom to email us to investigate if anything is being done to make Craig and Ferrell safer for students.
We rode along with Nellie Recio while she made that twice-a-day drive to Cheyenne High School.
"Like i said it's not a long distance from my home, she can walk to school," Nellie tells us from behind the wheel. But her 13 year old daughter doesn't walk even though the school is less than a mile down the street.
She gets picked up and dropped off because between their neighborhood and the school is the intersection at Craig and Ferrell.
"Call me an overprotective mother, but i dont believe in her walking across the street," Nellie says.
"I just want to walk to school by myself and get back home safe," Janelle tells us.
Nellie says students cross Craig all the time with no light, crosswalk or signs, but she thinks it's dangerous for her daughter Janelle.
Janelle says, "It just makes me upset that I have to get picked up at one time. I just want to hang out with my friends for a bit."
So Janelle asked her mom to email us, to investigate.
"She said 'mom why dont you just contact Channel 13 and make them aware of what's going on so i can be able to walk across the street?'"
We went to the intersection when school gets out. We found kids running to beat the cars and others waiting in the middle divider.
If mom and daughter agree on one thing, it's that the intersection should be safer for the students.
"Just slow em down, make them aware there are students crossing the street," Nellie says.
Janelle agrees saying "eveyrone's risking their life trying to walk through it."
We also talked to the city of North Las Vegas. They say they've gotten complaints before, but they didn't see a danger. But because of our story, they're going to check it out again and we'll let you know what they find.
Janelle's mom also says if something is done, she will let janelle walk to school.
