Notice of Action: Water rights in Amargosa Valley

Updated:

The State Engineer is proposing to make such rules and regulations as necessary to resolve outstanding water related issues within the area known as the Little Nevada Subdivision, Amargosa Valley, Nevada. (map)

The original subdivision was created in 1962 and the lots therein were of sufficient size to allow the owners to drill individual domestic wells. Later, the lot size requirements changed and the subdivision required a means to furnish water to the lots.

The first stage of the Embry water system, under water right Pennits 28062 and 45061, came on-line in 1984 and served about 25 customers. Due to a lack of interest, caused by a variety of factors, the subdivision was never completed as envisioned and water rights were stripped from some of the unsold lots still owned by Embry and transferred to a new place of use and additional water rights were lost through a subsequent cancellation for lack of due diligence.

Currently, water rights are appurtenant to 107 lots (97 separate parcels) within the subdivision.

The Office of the State Engineer will convene a public meeting with all interested parties promptly at 6:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009, at the Amargosa Community Center 821 E. Amargosa Farm Road, Amargosa, Nevada.
