Musical Arts Society Celebrates 51st season with Bach/Mendelssohn Masterworks Concert!
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society celebrates its 51st season with a Bach/Mendelssohn Masterworks Concert Sunday, May 4th, at 3:00 p.m. in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.
The afternoon concert features the 60-voice Musical Arts Chorus and Orchestra in performances of Bach Cantata No. 78, “Jesus, by Thy Cross,” and three major choral-orchestra works by Mendelssohn: “As the Hart Pants,” “Hear My Prayer,” and “Hymne, op. 96.” Guest soloists include Linda Lister, Soprano, Valeria Ore, Mezzo-Soprano, Brandon Grayson, Tenor, and Neil Wilson, Bass-Baritone. Dr. Wilson is featured soloist in Bach Cantata 78 in this, his 30th appearance with the Society. Las Vegas Academy’s “Les Chanteuses” perform the charming soprano-alto duet, “We hasten with eager yet faltering footsteps” from the Bach Cantata. In Mendelssohn’s “As the Hart Pants,” male vocalists Robert Peterson, Brandon Grayson, Sean McNelley, and Mark Reynolds accompany Soprano Linda Lister in the unusual “Quintet” movement, "The Lord Hath Commanded." Dr. Douglas Peterson is in his 46th season as the Society's Music Director. Last November 1st he received Nevada Arts Advocates’ “Legend Award” at its 14th Annual Gala at the Santa Fe Hotel & Casino. The state-wide arts organization honored him “for his long-standing dedication and contribution to the arts.”
