Summerlin Patriotic Parade
This year several new entries are added to the parade roster, including the Colors of the Wind Pocahontas-inspired float and a float saluting injured law enforcement officers. More than 16,000 cubic feet of helium will be used for more than 25 giant inflatables, which include a new Thomas the Tank Engine 30-foot inflatable helium balloon, a 35-foot Very Hungry Caterpillar balloon and a 65-foot inflatable brachiosaurus. Parade Grand Marshal is Colonel Peter Ford, Commander of Adversary Tactics Group, Nellis AFB. The parade is coordinated by The Summerlin Council, the non-profit arm of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to the social, educational and recreational enrichment of residents. It is open to the public. The parade is Thursday, July 4, 2013, 9-11 a.m. Escort division commences at 8:30 a.m. Public is encouraged to arrive early, bring water and wear sunscreen. The parade begins at the corner of Hillpointe Rd. and Hills Center Dr. in The Trails village of Summerlin. Participants travel south on Hills Center Dr. toward the Village Center Cir. roundabout before heading west of Trailwood Dr., ending at The Trails Village Shopping Center.
