WestCare Foundation and UNLV to Host ‘From Their Point of View’ – National Guard & Reserve Post-Combat Conference
Since 9/11, hundreds of thousand National Guard and Reserve Service Members have been called into active-duty, sacrificing the security of their civilian life and often returning home with a unique set of post-combat challenges. To shed light on this complex problem, WestCare Foundation and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Education are co-sponsoring “From Their Point of View” – National Guard and Reserve Post-Combat Conference on Tuesday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 22 at the Richard Tam Alumni Center at UNLV. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and is free for all veterans and active duty military. Military family members, community members with an interest in veteran affairs and professionals seeking CEUs can attend the conference for $100 before May 13, or $150 thereafter. The event will feature keynote addresses from retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Rebecca Halstead and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eric Newhouse. Panel discussions with local military experts will include topics such as combat trauma, Post Traumatic Stress, addiction, suicide prevention, reintegration, justice involvement and resiliency.
