14th Annual Make A Difference Day Food Drive

The 14th Annual Food Drive will be held at the Summerlin Smith’s Food and Drug. 2211 N Rampart in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 10 am to 4 pm. Philanthropist Mary Vail, OSG hosts the yearly drive to benefit the Las Vegas Chapter Salvation Army Food Bank as part of the national USA Weekend Magazine MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY, a nationwide charity event.
As tradition with the award winning food drive, celebrities and local personalities will lend their
support for the cause making appearances throughout the day. Confirmed for 2012 are Celebrity
Blogger/TV Host Robin Leach, Singer/Actress Pia Zadora, the Fantasy Girls, the Men of Thunder From Down Under, Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony, TV Personality Heidi Hayes, FOX-5 Meteorologist Ted Pretty and Author Joe Vassallo. Vail invites fellow Las Vegans to come shop with our celebrities for nonperishable food items to donate to this great cause.
Smith’s Food & Drug has proudly been the host site for the food drive for 14 years and always
provides a generous donation. Other sponsors include Hair Stylist Carlos Pacheco, KTNV TV-
13, MAC Landscaping, KTNV-The Morning Blend, Houldsworth Russo & Company, FOX-5,
Pictographics, Paragon Pools and UNLV EMBA Cohort11.
To date, the yearly food drive has collected over 44,480 lbs of non-perishable foods and personal
hygiene items. The Food Drive was recognized nationally in April by the Make A Difference
Day organization, Points of Light and Newsman’s Own Foundation as one of 10 notable projects
from thousands held in 2011.
The Salvation Army Food Bank services over 200 families a day, 52 weeks a year!
