Old vs. new designed washing machine
When shopping for a washing machine, cheaper may be better.
Consumer Reports says people tend to report fewer problems with old-fashioned top-loaders. And they're a lot less expensive, typically in the $400 range.
Newer front-loading machines are usually in the neighborhood of $1,500 to $2,700.
The newer designs typically hold more laundry, and use less water to wash. But there tends to be more problems with electronic circuit boards, and the parts are more expensive to replace.
