BBB warning of top scams
The Better Business Bureau has come up with a list of the top scams of 2012.
And they want to make sure you aren't a victim in the new year. Scams include the fake car ad. Thieves send you what turns out to be a fake check, claiming they want to pay you to put a company's ad on your car.
There's also the grandparent scam. Thieves call senior citizens, tricking them into believing they're a family member in trouble, and asking the victim to send them money.
Another scam to watch out for, theives call claiming you've been approved for a loan of some kind, but request an advance fee or pre-payment.
And one other popular scam is a fake lottery. Theives call, claiming you're the winner of a major jackpot and that you must pay a fee or taxes first, in order to receive your prize.
