Strong luxury car sales
The luxury car industry had a good 2012. Mercedes-Benz sold more cars than ever last year.
Their U.S. wing of the automaker sold more than 300,000 vehicles, a more than 15 percent increase over 2011.
Infiniti also reported strong sales. It sold nearly 120,000 vehicles in 2012, up nearly 22 percent from 2011.
Overall, Americans spent more on new vehicles in 2012. According to automotive pricing information company TrueCar, the average vehicle purchase last month was for more than $31,000. That's up more than $500 from December 2011.
