Counterfeit air bags
There's been an increase in the sale of counterfeit air bags. That's according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
It says counterfeit air bags are being used as replacement parts in vehicles that have been involved in a crash and it's putting consumers at risk. These air bags look nearly identical to certified, original equipment parts.
Testing shows the bags consistently malfunctioning, including metal shrapnel flying out during deployment.
But the agency says it's not aware of any deaths or injuries connected to counterfeit air bags.
