Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Smith's stores across the valley are warning their customers that their cantaloupes could be tainted.

DFI Marketing Inc. of Fresno, Calif., is voluntarily recalling the fruit because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.

The bacteria was found on a single sample of cantaloupe during routine testing.

The recall affects 28,000 cartons.

The cantaloupes may have been distributed between Aug. 27 and Sept. 10.
