Warning about calls from charities
Beware of scams following natural disaster, Isaac.
After hitting parts of the Gulf Coast so hard, the Federal Trade Commission says beware of urgent appeals for charitable donations.
If you get a call, be sure to ask the caller who they work for and what percentage of your donation goes to charity. Don't give out personal or financial information, including your credit card or bank account number.
Also, do your homework. The Better Business Bureau has an online tool for researching charities.
