Dangerous back-to-school supplies
A new report says high levels of toxic chemicals are in some children's back-to-school supplies.
The advocacy group, Center for Health, Environment & Justice says chemicals called phthalates are in many children's vinyl backpacks, raincoats and other supplies. The chemicals are linked to asthma, birth defects, reproductive problems and other health hazards.
There's now a push for the passage of the Safe Chemicals Act, which would give the Environmental Protection Agency more authority to regulate chemicals in consumer products.
