Give your input on gift cards
Have you ever had an issue when trying to use a gift card? We've heard a lot of your complaints here at Contact 13.
Now the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is taking on the issue. They're looking at how much time someone should have to use a gift card, before it expires.
Federal law prohibits the sale of a gift card that expires sooner than five years. But unclaimed property laws in Maine and Tennessee say certain types of gift cards are abandoned property if unused for a period of two years.
So the bureau is asking members of the public to weigh with their opinion. How long should a gift card be good for?
